arcteryx-kopec-gtx-m-habitat-void
Arc'teryx Kopec Gore-Tex Men's Habitat / Void

The Arc'teryx Kopec GTX M Habitat / Void is a low-cut waterproof hiking shoe built for moving efficiently over changing terrain. Its balance of support and flexibility suits day hikes and longer walking trips when you want a shoe that feels less restrictive around the ankle than a boot. The roomy toe box gives the forefoot space to spread, while the middle of the shoe is designed to hold the foot securely. Check that balance in your own size rather than treating extra toe room as permission for the heel to move.

The upper uses durable CORDURA mesh, with reinforcement in areas exposed to wear. Inside, GORE-TEX ePE protection provides a waterproof, breathable barrier. This combination makes sense for wet paths and changeable walking conditions, while the open collar remains a point where water can enter if you step too deep. The Kopec is still a low shoe: choose your route and pace with that coverage in mind, and do not confuse waterproof construction with the ability to keep out water above the opening.

A dual-density midsole brings cushioning and support together, helping the platform deal with repeated steps over uneven ground. The TPU midfoot shank supplies torsional support without requiring the whole shoe to be rigid. For the wearer, the intention is a supported platform that can still move as the route changes. Carry the weight you normally hike with when checking fit, because the demands of an easy day walk and a loaded multiday trip may feel quite different underfoot.

The Vibram Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology uses a lug pattern designed for varied surfaces and mud release. That gives the Kopec a clear hiking role across dirt, rock and softer trail sections. Grip still depends on the surface and your foot placement, especially on slick roots or unstable stones. An integrated webbing lace system helps secure the midfoot, while the extended U-shaped throat supports flexibility and makes the upper's opening less restrictive during movement.

Take time to adjust the lace tension and heel hold with the socks you intend to wear. Walk up and down a slope if possible, checking toe clearance on the way down and any lift at the heel on the way up. The official care instruction is surface cleaning only; follow the shoe's own guidance instead of putting it through a washing machine.
