Thirtytwo Lashed at Behind The Pines Amsterdam

The Lashed is Thirtytwo's longest-running boot and one of the most recognisable in snowboarding. It came out of Chris Bradshaw's involvement with the brand and has stayed close to the same recipe for years: a medium flex, a straightforward liner, and a fit that suits a lot of feet without needing much work.

It comes in lace, Boa and Double Boa versions, in men's and women's lasts, and that closure choice is the main decision you have to make.

What the Lashed is

Medium flex

Soft enough to press and butter, stiff enough to hold an edge at speed. It is the flex most riders should own if they only own one boot, and it is why the Lashed has stayed in the line for so long. If you ride exclusively park, there are softer boots; if you ride exclusively fast, there are stiffer ones.

Closure options

Traditional lace gives you the most control — you can tighten the forefoot and the ankle differently, which matters if your foot is an awkward shape. It also takes longer and needs re-tightening. Single Boa is fast and even. Double Boa splits the boot into two zones and gets you most of the control of laces with the speed of a dial.

Liner

Heat-mouldable in most versions. It will pack out over the first ten days of riding, which is normal — buy the boot snug, because a boot that feels perfect in the shop will be loose by March.

How to choose your size

Snowboard boots should feel tighter than shoes. Standing upright, your toes should just touch the end; when you bend your knees into a riding stance, they should pull back off it. If your toes are not touching at all when you stand, the boot is too big.

Most people ride a boot half a size to a full size smaller than their street shoe. Add the liner packing out over the season and the temptation to buy comfort on day one is exactly the mistake to avoid.
