Arc'teryx T-shirts
An Arc'teryx T-shirt is still a T-shirt. That sounds obvious, but we think it is worth saying.
Not every piece of outdoor clothing needs a membrane, three zippers and a long list of technologies. Sometimes you just want a good tee that fits well, moves properly and still feels good after wearing it all day.
That is what we like about the Arc'teryx T-shirts in our Arc'teryx collection. Some are technical and built for active use, while others take the same attention to fit and construction and apply it to a simple cotton shirt.
The Kragg SL
The Kragg SL is a good example.
It comes from Arc'teryx's climbing side and is cut to give you plenty of freedom through the shoulders and arms. The current cotton versions use soft, long-staple SUPIMA® cotton and have a relaxed enough fit that they do not start pulling as soon as you reach overhead.
You probably do not need that level of patterning to walk to a coffee shop.
But once you have worn a tee climbing, travelling or carrying a pack all day, small things like shoulder seams and freedom of movement start making a lot more sense.
And away from the rock, it is simply a very good everyday T-shirt.
Cotton or technical?
This really depends on what you are doing.
For everyday wear, travelling at an easy pace or just hanging around outside, we often prefer cotton. It feels natural, wears nicely and does not make everything in your wardrobe look overly technical.
For hard hiking, running or hot days where you are sweating a lot, a technical fabric makes more sense. It dries faster and deals with moisture better.
There is no reason to make this more complicated than it is.

Made to move, without looking like sportswear
This is where Arc'teryx gets it right.
Even its simpler clothing tends to come from a background of climbing and mountain movement. You see that in where seams sit, how sleeves are shaped and how much room you have when you move.
At the same time, most Arc'teryx tees are clean enough to wear with jeans or a pair of technical Arc'teryx Pants.
That crossover is a big part of why we carry them.
You can wear one underneath an Arc'teryx Jacket in bad weather, take the jacket off when the sun comes out and still look like you dressed normally that morning.
For hiking and travel
For hiking, think about temperature and how hard you are moving.
A cotton tee is comfortable for easy hikes and cooler days, but for longer, warmer or more intense days we would normally choose something that manages moisture more efficiently.
For travelling, both can work.
Cotton is nice if most of the trip is city, food and wandering around. Technical tees become more useful when you are travelling light, washing clothes on the road or moving between city and outdoors.
The rest of the setup can be found in our Outdoor collection.
Fit
Arc'teryx T-shirts are not all cut exactly the same.
Some models sit fairly clean, while climbing-oriented pieces like the Kragg give you more room to move.
We would choose based on what you actually want from the shirt rather than automatically sizing up for an oversized look.
If you plan to use it under a fleece or shell, a cleaner fit often layers better. If you want something for warm weather or climbing, a little extra room can be nice.
Arc'teryx T-Shirts at Behind The Pines
We like Arc'teryx T-shirts for the same reason we like the more technical pieces from the brand: they are considered without feeling over-designed.
Sometimes that means a technical fabric. Sometimes it just means really good cotton, a proper fit and seams in the right places.
