FASE® Bindings
FASE® snowboard bindings combine the quick entry of a modern fast-entry system with the familiar fit and feel of a traditional two-strap binding. Instead of requiring dedicated snowboard boots, FASE keeps an ankle strap and toe strap while changing the way you get in and out of the binding.
At Behind The Pines Amsterdam, FASE sits between traditional snowboard bindings and systems such as Step On®. It is particularly interesting for riders who want to strap in faster but do not want to give up regular snowboard boots, individual strap adjustment or the locked-in feel of a classic binding.
How does the FASE® system work?
FASE is built around three key elements: the AutoBack, FastStrap and Locked-In Toe Strap.
The AutoBack moves out of the way to create a wide opening when you step into the binding. As your boot enters, the highback automatically returns into riding position.
The Locked-In Toe Strap is designed to remain at your preferred setting. Once adjusted correctly, you do not need to fully open and reset it every time you get into the binding.
The FastStrap uses an extended ankle ladder that stays connected to the binding. Step in, pull the ankle strap into position and tighten the ratchet with one hand.
The result is a familiar two-strap setup with a much faster entry process.
FASE® vs traditional strap bindings
FASE is fundamentally still a two-strap snowboard binding.
That is important.
Your snowboard boot is held by an ankle strap and toe strap in much the same way as with a conventional binding. You can still adjust strap tension and fine-tune the fit around your boot.
The main difference is the entry system.
With a traditional strap binding, you normally open both straps before putting your boot into the binding and then tighten each strap.
FASE keeps the binding prepared for entry. The highback opens automatically, the toe strap remains set and the ankle strap stays connected.
For riders who like traditional bindings but want to spend less time strapping in, FASE is a very logical evolution.
FASE® vs Step On®
FASE and Step On solve a similar problem in very different ways.
Step On® creates a direct connection between a compatible boot and binding and removes traditional straps entirely.
FASE keeps the traditional two-strap concept but makes entry significantly faster.
The biggest practical difference is boot compatibility.
With FASE, you can continue using regular snowboard boots. You are not locked into a dedicated boot interface.
That makes FASE particularly interesting if you already own boots that fit perfectly or if boot fit is your first priority.
Step On may be the cleaner and faster integrated system. FASE offers more freedom in boot choice and retains a more traditional binding feel.
Neither is automatically better. They solve the same convenience problem for different riders.
Any snowboard boot
One of the biggest advantages of FASE is that you do not need a special snowboard boot.
That matters because boots should always be chosen primarily around fit.
Heel hold, foot shape, width, liner volume and flex have a major influence on comfort and control. Being able to choose from regular snowboard boots gives you a much larger range of fits than a proprietary boot system.
Find the boot that fits your foot first, then choose the FASE binding that matches your riding style.

FASE® bindings from Rome
Rome integrates FASE into some of its most established binding platforms.
The Katana AW FASE®, for example, combines Rome's highly adjustable AsymWrap platform with the faster FASE entry system.
That means FASE does not determine the entire character of the binding.
The underlying chassis, highback, straps, cushioning and flex still define how each model rides.
This is one of the strengths of FASE: different snowboard brands can build the system into bindings with very different personalities.
Bataleon FASE® bindings
Bataleon uses FASE within bindings such as the Blaster AsymWrap FASE®.
The AsymWrap construction is designed to create lateral freedom and board feel while retaining enough response for all-mountain riding.
The FASE system simply changes the entry and exit process. The underlying Bataleon binding characteristics remain.

ThirtyTwo T32M FASE®
ThirtyTwo takes a more freestyle-driven approach with the T32M FASE®.
The binding combines the fast-entry system with a medium-soft, lively platform designed around mobility, board feel and all-mountain freestyle riding.
It is a good example of why FASE should not be treated as one single type of binding.
A Rome Katana FASE and a ThirtyTwo T32M FASE use the same entry concept but can feel very different on snow.

FASE® for all-mountain riding
FASE makes a lot of sense for everyday resort riding.
Most resort days involve repeated chairlift laps. Faster entry means less time adjusting straps after every lift and more time moving.
Because the system can be integrated into bindings with different flex ratings, FASE is not limited to one riding style.
A medium-flex FASE binding can provide a strong balance for groomers, side hits, carving and variable conditions.
For many riders, this is probably the sweet spot.
FASE® for freestyle
FASE also works well for freestyle because it retains a conventional ankle- and toe-strap connection.
That gives brands freedom to tune flex, lateral movement and cushioning just as they would with a normal binding.
A softer FASE model can therefore still provide the freedom needed for presses, tweaks, side hits and park riding.
Fast entry does not automatically mean a stiff or highly technical ride.
FASE® for freeride and carving
More responsive FASE bindings can also work for aggressive all-mountain, freeride and carving.
A stiffer chassis and supportive highback can provide faster edge-to-edge response and additional support through loaded turns.
Again, the FASE system itself does not determine flex.
Look at the complete binding: chassis, highback, straps and cushioning remain just as important as the entry mechanism.
FASE® binding sizing
FASE works with regular snowboard boots, but you still need the correct binding size.
Check the manufacturer's boot-size range for the specific binding. A Medium from one brand may not cover exactly the same sizes as a Medium from another.
Your boot should sit centred in the binding with the heel properly positioned against the highback and the straps correctly aligned.
Binding size also needs to make sense relative to the width of your snowboard.
Is FASE® good for beginners?
Yes.
FASE can make getting in and out easier while still giving a beginner the familiar support of a two-strap binding.
More importantly, a beginner can choose from regular snowboard boots rather than having to select from a specific compatible system.
The binding's flex still matters more than the FASE mechanism itself.
A beginner will generally benefit from a softer or medium-flex binding that is easy to control, while more experienced riders may prefer additional support and response.
Build the right FASE® setup
Start with your boots.
Choose snowboard boots that fit your feet correctly and provide the flex you want.
Then choose a FASE binding with a compatible size and a flex that works with your riding style.
Finally, match the combination to your snowboard.
Your board, boots and bindings should work as one system. FASE simply makes that system faster to get into.
