Wave is the technology the whole Mizuno range is built on, and it is the reason these shoes feel different underfoot from almost anything else. This page collects every Wave model we stock, from the heavily cushioned Prophecy through to the trail-focused Daichi and Mujin.

What the Wave plate actually does

Most cushioning works by adding soft foam. More foam, softer ride, less stability. It is a trade-off every brand has to make.

Mizuno went a different way. A thin corrugated plate sits inside the midsole, and when your foot lands the plate flexes and disperses that impact sideways across the width of the shoe rather than letting it compress straight up through your leg. You get the shock absorption without the foam having to be soft, which is why a Wave shoe feels supportive and cushioned at the same time rather than trading one for the other.

It also holds up. Foam packs out with mileage; a plate does not. A well-worn Wave shoe still feels like itself in a way that a pure-foam shoe often does not.

Wave Prophecy

The most distinctive shoe in the range and the one people either love immediately or find too much. It uses the Infinity Wave, where the plate becomes a visible spring-like structure through the heel. It is heavy by modern standards and extremely well cushioned, which makes it excellent for long days standing and walking rather than for moving fast.

Everyday Wave models

Lower, lighter and easier to wear with normal clothes. These keep the plate but drop the visual drama, which suits anyone who wants the ride without the statement.

Wave Daichi and Wave Mujin

The trail side of the range. Grippier outsoles, more protective uppers, and on the GTX versions a waterproof membrane. These are the Wave models worth considering for Dutch autumn walking rather than pure city use. See the wider category in Gore-Tex shoes.

How to choose

Start with how long you are on your feet and on what. A full day standing or walking on pavement favours the heavily cushioned models, and the weight stops registering after the first hour. Mixed city and path use favours the everyday Wave models. Actual trails and wet ground favour Daichi or Mujin.

The models we stock are set up for everyday wear rather than training. Mizuno does make dedicated running shoes, but that is a different part of their range.
