Snowboard Pants Sale at Behind The Pines Amsterdam

Pants are where most people underspend, and it is the decision they regret by the third day. The logic is understandable: the jacket is the visible piece, so the budget goes there. But on a snowboard you spend a genuine amount of time sitting in the snow — strapping in at the top, waiting for a friend, going down on your backside on an icy traverse. That puts sustained pressure and standing water against the seat and the knees, which is a load a jacket never sees.

Bib or pant — and be honest about the trade-off

A bib solves two problems that regular pants only manage. The first is the gap at the back: when you sit down or crouch, a waistband drops and a jacket rides up, and snow finds that seam every single time. The second is the powder day problem, where deep snow packs into the waistband from the front. A bib removes both by moving the closure up to your chest, and it removes the belt pressure under a hip pack while it is at it. For anyone riding off-piste, in trees, or falling a lot while learning, a bib is simply the better garment.

The trade-offs are real, though. A bib is warmer than a pant with the same fabric, because the front panel adds another layer over your core — excellent in January, hot in April. And toilet stops are more involved; some bibs have a drop seat or a full side zip, some have neither, and it is worth checking before you buy rather than after. If you ride mostly on-piste in spring conditions, a regular pant with a good waist adjustment is not a compromise. It is the right answer.

What the mm rating is actually protecting

Waterproof ratings get quoted like horsepower, but on pants the number means something concrete. A rating is measured as water pressure, and sitting on wet snow is pressure. That is why a 10k jacket is usually fine while a 10k pant will wet through the seat on a slushy spring day, and why the same fabric feels better in a jacket than in a trouser. If you ride in Austria or France in March, look at 15k and up, and check that the seams are taped through the seat rather than just critically taped.

Vents, fit and what goes underneath

Inner-thigh zips are the most underrated feature on a pair of snowboard pants. They dump heat fast without letting snow in, and on a warm afternoon they are the difference between riding comfortably and soaking your base layer. Mesh-backed vents keep snow out; open vents breathe better. For fit, take your normal waist and let the leg be roomier than a street trouser — you need to bend deeply and you want the cuff to sit over the boot, not on it. Underneath, one thin base layer is enough. Two makes you sweat, and a thick pair of joggers under a shell just compresses everything and makes you colder.

How it fits with the rest of the kit

Pants are half of a system that only works as a set. Pair them with something from snowboard jackets that has a decent powder skirt, and put a proper base layer underneath rather than cotton. Frequently asked questions

Is sale stock last season's gear?

Yes, mostly — previous-season colourways. Snowboard trouser construction barely changes year to year: the fabric, the taping and the fit carry over, and only the colour and print are new. Warranty and returns are exactly the same as on full-price stock.

Bib or pant for a first snowboard trip?

A bib, if you are choosing between them. Beginners spend a lot of time sitting down and falling forward, and that is precisely where snow gets into a regular pant. The extra warmth is welcome on a learning week too, since you are not moving as constantly as an experienced rider.

What waterproof rating do I need?

10k is workable for cold, dry midwinter conditions. For spring riding, wet coastal snow or anyone who sits down often, 15k or 20k is a much better use of money. Pants sit under more pressure than a jacket, so it is the place to spend the extra.

Do I need insulated pants?

Usually not. A shell pant plus a thin base layer covers most conditions and gives you a far wider temperature range. Insulated pants make sense if you ride cold, ride slowly, or spend a lot of the day standing still with a snowboard school.

How should they fit over boots?

The cuff should sit over the boot with the gaiter tucked inside it, long enough to cover the top of the boot when you are in a riding stance. If a pant is short enough to expose your boot liner when you bend your knees, it is too short, no matter what the waist says.
