Vans Sale
Vans Sale at Behind The Pines Amsterdam
Reduced Vans across the range we actually stock: MTE weatherproof models, classic skate silhouettes and snowboard boots. We do not carry the whole Vans catalogue. We carry the part that survives a Dutch winter and still looks like Vans.
Everything here is regular product at a lower price, reduced on season and stock rather than specification.
The part of Vans worth paying attention to
Most people know Vans through the Old Skool and the Authentic, and those still do what they always did. The more interesting development is MTE, which takes those shapes and rebuilds them for weather: a warmer lining, a properly lugged outsole, sealed or water-resistant uppers, and on some models a GORE-TEX membrane.
That matters in a country where it rains sideways for four months. A canvas Authentic in November is a bad idea. An MTE version of roughly the same shoe is not.
MTE and all-weather models
The MTE line is where Vans stops being a summer shoe. Grip is the real upgrade: the outsole compound and tread pattern are designed for cold and wet rather than griptape. If you are choosing between membrane and mesh, our comparison of mesh vs Gore-Tex sneakers is worth five minutes, and the best Gore-Tex sneakers for Dutch weather puts them next to the alternatives.

Classic silhouettes
Old Skool, Sk8-Hi, Authentic and Era. There is not much to explain here, which is the point: the patterns have barely moved in decades and the shoes still work with almost anything. In the sale these usually appear as last-season colourways rather than discontinued models.

Snowboard boots
Vans has been making snowboard boots for a long time and they are genuinely good, not a branding exercise. The construction borrows from their skate shoes, which means a softer, more forgiving flex and a boot that packs out less aggressively than you might expect. Worth a look if you ride park or you want something comfortable straight out of the box.

How to choose the right pair
Be honest about when you will wear them. If it is summer and dry evenings, a canvas classic is fine and cheaper. If it is your daily shoe through a Dutch autumn, MTE is the version that will still be wearable in January. Vans generally fit true to size with a slightly narrow toe box, so if you have wide feet the MTE models tend to be more forgiving.

Why shop Vans sale at Behind The Pines?
We are not trying to compete with everyone else selling Old Skools. What we can do is tell you which MTE model actually keeps water out, how the snowboard boots break in, and whether the pair you are looking at will work for how you spend your week. That is the part a size chart cannot give you.

Frequently asked questions
What does MTE stand for?
Mountain Edition. It is Vans' all-weather line: warmer, grippier and water-resistant or fully waterproof depending on the model.
Are MTE shoes fully waterproof?
Only the models built with a GORE-TEX membrane are genuinely waterproof. The rest are water-resistant, which handles rain but not standing water. The product page states which is which.
Do Vans fit true to size?
Generally yes. The toe box runs slightly narrow on the classic shapes, so wider feet often prefer the MTE builds or a half size up.
Are Vans snowboard boots any good?
Yes. They tend to be softer flexing and comfortable early, which suits park riding and anyone who dislikes a long break-in period.
Are sale models older stock?
Usually last-season colourways. The shoe construction is unchanged.
