Norda 001A Scoria

The Norda 001A Scoria is a men’s trail shoe built for long distances without turning every run into a slow, heavy affair. Its optimally cushioned ultra-distance platform combines a seamless Dyneema® upper, a resilient Arnitel® TPEE midsole and a full trail outsole. Scoria gives the technical construction a muted, earthy finish that works equally well on the trail and on the journey there.

The upper is woven from bio-circular Dyneema®, a material chosen for high abrasion resistance at low weight. Its seamless construction reduces unnecessary panels and potential wear points. Norda’s woven upper is water-resistant rather than waterproof: Dyneema® itself is hydrophobic, while the construction still allows airflow and drainage. That distinction matters if you run through prolonged rain or standing water and need to choose between breathability and membrane protection.

A gusseted sock construction forms part of the Norda Lock System, connecting the external lace eyelet to the foot for a controlled midfoot and heel hold. The diamond-pattern laces combine bio-circular Dyneema® with recycled polyester, while reflective details run from front to rear for 360-degree visibility in low light.

Underfoot, a Norda x Arnitel® TPEE midsole is tuned for energy return, support and durability. A custom 5 mm eTPU insole adds impact absorption and rebound. The geometry uses a 26 mm heel and 21 mm forefoot, resulting in a moderate 5 mm drop. At approximately 268 g in a men’s US 8.5, the 001A balances protection with a weight that remains practical for daily training and longer efforts.

The Norda x Vibram® soleplate combines Litebase® construction with Megagrip® rubber and 5 mm lugs. Litebase® reduces unnecessary outsole weight, while the lug depth and rubber compound are intended for grip on wet and dry trail surfaces. It is a versatile set-up for mixed and technical terrain, but surface conditions, wear and running technique still influence traction.

Fit deserves attention. Norda says the 001A runs slightly small and recommends going half a US size up; if you fall between sizes, choose the larger one. The anatomical toe box allows natural toe spread, while the midfoot and heel are shaped for secure performance lockdown. Try the shoe with your usual running socks and leave enough room for the foot to expand on longer distances.

The 001A suits runners looking for one durable, versatile trail shoe for daily kilometres, technical routes and ultra-distance use. It is not the waterproof G+ version, so choose that model when full membrane protection is essential. After a run, remove loose dirt and let the shoes dry naturally away from direct heat.
