The Saucony Peregrine 16 GTX Laurel / Sage is a waterproof men’s trail-running shoe for routes where wet ground, loose dirt and technical paths belong to the same run. This is the S21068-110 Laurel / Sage version, with the current Peregrine 16 construction. Choose it when you want trail traction and cushioning together with weather protection, rather than using an ordinary road shoe on changing surfaces.
The upper uses GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, designed to combine waterproof, breathable protection with a flexible feel. The integration aims to keep the upper from feeling like a separate stiff weather shell around the foot. That is useful when your route includes damp vegetation, rain or wet sections of trail. As with any low shoe, protection through the upper does not stop water entering over the collar in deep water.
Underfoot, PWRRUN cushioning provides the foam layer between the foot and the ground. Saucony has increased the cushioning for this generation, with comfort and protection during longer trail efforts in mind. The practical effect is a more buffered contact with uneven ground, while the shoe remains intended for moving along trails. This is cushioning within a running shoe, not the rigid support structure of a tall hiking boot.
The full-coverage Vibram MegaGrip outsole is a major part of the Peregrine 16 GTX identity. Saucony specifies the compound for traction across trail conditions, including wet rock and loose dirt. Different ground still calls for different judgement: slippery roots, smooth stone and steep descents require careful foot placement. A capable outsole can support that process, but it should never be treated as a guarantee against slipping.
The upper includes high-abrasion reinforcement for the contact and wear of trail use. An integrated D-ring for gaiter compatibility adds an attachment point when your route calls for a suitable gaiter; it does not mean a gaiter is included. The lace fastening lets you adjust the hold around the foot. Aim for a secure heel and enough toe room, especially when trying the shoe on for downhill movement.
For sizing, measure both feet and use the longer measurement, as Saucony’s guide recommends. Try the shoes with the socks you plan to run in. Avoid choosing a tight toe fit in the hope that the upper will compensate. After a muddy run, follow the supplied footwear care instructions and remove loose dirt before storing the shoes. Let them dry between uses so you can assess the next run with a clean outsole.
