The Hooded Furnace Insulator in Death Star is a lightweight insulated jacket built around an efficient balance of warmth, movement and packability. It is the kind of layer that earns its place by working in several situations: under a shell on cold mountain days, over a technical base layer during lower-output activity, or as an everyday piece when the temperature drops after riding.
Ultra-soft Japanese-woven 20D nylon shell. Seamless 3D baffle construction reduces cold spots. The fabric and insulation are combined to retain warmth without relying on unnecessary bulk, which makes the jacket easier to layer and less restrictive through the shoulders and arms. The baffle construction keeps the down distributed across the body and helps reduce cold spots.
Mapped RDS-certified 850-fill-power hydrophobic European goose down. This is an important distinction when choosing an insulated layer. A closer fit improves efficiency under a shell, while a regular cut offers a little more room for changing layers. In both cases, the jacket should sit close enough to trap warm air but should not compress the insulation or restrict arm movement.
Contoured hood, oversized hand pockets and YKK zips. Regular fit and a listed weight of 220g. These are practical choices rather than decorative details. Hood shape, pocket volume, zip placement and overall weight all become noticeable when the jacket is used repeatedly through a winter, especially when it moves in and out of a backpack.
This piece is not a direct substitute for a fully waterproof storm shell unless the specification explicitly says so. In dry cold it can be worn on its own, but during sustained rain, wet snowfall or strong wind it is better protected underneath a suitable outer layer. That separation keeps the insulation focused on warmth while the shell manages precipitation and wind.
For sizing, try it with the base layer or fleece you expect to wear most often. Raise both arms, rotate the shoulders and check that the hem remains in place. If it will mostly sit beneath a shell, confirm there is no bunching at the cuffs or hood. The available sizes in this colour are XS, S, M, L, XL.

Care has a direct effect on insulation performance. Follow the garment label carefully, use an appropriate detergent and make sure the jacket is completely dry before storage. Down benefits from patient low-temperature drying with regular agitation so the clusters regain their loft. Store it uncompressed in a dry place whenever possible.
