Gramicci T-Shirts at Behind The Pines Amsterdam

Gramicci tees are heavier than most. The house cotton sits around 200 grams per square metre and up, which is roughly double a supermarket t-shirt, and it changes how the shirt behaves: it hangs off the shoulder instead of clinging, it holds its shape through the wash, and the neck ribbing does not go wavy after a summer.

The range runs from the plain One Point Tee with the small Running Man at the chest, through the printed graphics and the pocket tees, to the long-sleeve versions. All of it is cut wide and short in the body — the boxy Japanese proportion — which is worth knowing before you order a size.

What makes a Gramicci tee different

Fabric weight

Most of the range is midweight to heavyweight cotton jersey. It arrives with a bit of stiffness and settles after a few washes into something that drapes rather than drops. The practical upside is that it does not go translucent, does not stretch out at the collar, and layers under a shirt or fleece without bunching.

The Running Man

The logo is a climber mid-move, drawn from Mike Graham's Yosemite days. On the One Point Tee it is a small chest embroidery or print; on the graphic tees it is scaled up and paired with archive artwork. Both are printed or stitched properly, not heat-pressed, so they survive the machine.

Cut

Boxy. Wide through the chest, short in the body, with a dropped shoulder on most models. If you want a tee that sits close to the body, this is the wrong brand — look at the fitted options in our wider T-shirts collection instead. If you want something that sits over a pair of Gramicci pants without tucking, this is exactly right.

How to choose your size

Two things pull in opposite directions here. Gramicci uses Asian sizing, which runs small, so you would normally size up. But the tees are cut boxy, which already adds width. In practice most people take their usual size and get a relaxed fit, or one size up for a deliberately oversized look. That is different from Gramicci pants and shorts, where sizing up is close to mandatory.

If you are between sizes and want the shirt to sit closer, take the smaller one — the body length is short enough that the larger size can end up looking cropped and wide at the same time.

What to expect

• Heavier cotton than you are used to. It softens over the first three or four washes.
• Boxy through the chest with a short body — measure a tee you already own if fit matters to you.
• Prints and embroidery are washable; turn the shirt inside out and skip the dryer to keep them sharp.
• Cotton in this weight will shrink slightly in the length if tumble dried. Hang dry.

Do Gramicci t-shirts run small?

Less than the pants and shorts do. The boxy cut compensates for the Asian sizing, so most people take their usual size. Size up only if you want it clearly oversized.

How heavy is the cotton?

Most of the range sits at 200 gsm or above, against roughly 140–160 gsm for a standard tee. The individual product page lists it where the manufacturer specifies it.

Will the print crack?

Not with normal care. Wash inside out at 30 degrees and hang dry. What kills prints is heat, so avoid the tumble dryer and do not iron directly over the graphic.

Does it shrink?

Slightly in the length on the first hot wash or tumble dry. Cold wash and hang dry and it stays put.

What do they go with?
