Devold Nansen Wool Sweater Falcon

The Devold Nansen Wool Sweater Falcon is a substantial unisex wool sweater rooted in Devold’s Norwegian workwear history. It is the kind of layer that makes sense immediately: the silhouette is clear, the material has a defined purpose and the colour works without demanding the rest of the outfit. Behind The Pines selects pieces like this for real use, not for a specification sheet alone. Here, the appeal comes from the natural texture, honest warmth and heritage-led pattern, giving the garment a recognisable identity while keeping it practical.

Material and construction are central to the way it feels. The knit uses 100% pure new Norwegian wool, chosen for insulation, breathability and the ability to remain comfortable across changing temperatures. The traditional construction keeps the material visible and purposeful rather than hiding it behind unnecessary finishes. The result is not a technical shell and does not pretend to be one; it is a tactile, insulating everyday layer whose performance comes from fibre, knit and shape. That distinction matters when you are deciding whether it belongs next to the skin, over a base layer or under outerwear.

Fit and shape have been considered as part of the function. The unisex silhouette is designed as a warm midlayer; use the listed garment weight and your preferred underlayers when selecting size. This gives enough context to choose a size without turning the description into guesswork. The exact colour is Falcon, and the model reference is Nansen Wool Sweater / DTC386552S-696A. Those details make it easier to compare this version with similar-looking pieces and avoid confusing it with a different weight or construction.

Devold’s Originals line refers back to garments made for fishermen, workers and explorers who depended on wool in exposed conditions. This classic uses a 32–36-micron wool specification and weighs approximately 740 g in size L, balancing substantial warmth with a straightforward shape. In practice, it works for cold everyday wear, travel, mountain cabins and low-output outdoor time where durable warmth matters. The design is quiet enough for daily wear but specific enough to reward a closer look. It is best for someone who values dependable materials, a clear silhouette and a garment that can stay in rotation beyond one season, rather than a lightweight layer chosen only because it looks warm in a photograph.

Key details

• 100% pure new Norwegian wool
• 32–36-micron fibre specification
• Ribbed sleeves and body hem
• Approximately 740 g in size L
• Wear over a base layer or under outerwear
• Follow the product care label

The value of a piece like this appears in the way it layers. Worn over a light base layer, it adds warmth without asking for a complicated system; under a shell or coat, the straightforward construction avoids unnecessary bulk. The stated fit describes the intended silhouette, but personal preference still matters. Compare your measurements with the brand chart and consider the layers you normally wear underneath. That is especially useful when deciding between a closer everyday fit and a more relaxed outdoor combination.

Natural fibres and substantial knits benefit from simple, patient care. Air the garment between wears, let it dry fully after damp conditions and follow the care label rather than treating it like a standard cotton T-shirt. Store it clean and folded when its weight could pull at a hanger. This is not a novelty piece built around a short trend. It is a practical layer with clear material information, a recognisable construction and enough versatility to move from a cold commute or cabin morning to an easy day outside.
