Hestra Idun Black

The Hestra Idun Black is a leather glove for everyday journeys, autumn walks and milder winter days. Its narrow women's fit keeps the shape neat around the hand, without the bulk of a heavily insulated ski glove. Choose it when you want the feel of leather and a soft knitted interior for time outside in town or on a relaxed walk. The black colour makes it straightforward to combine with your usual winter coat.

The main outer material is supple deerskin, with a natural grain that gives the glove its character. The leather bends with the hand and provides a soft surface for ordinary daily handling. Around the wrist, a rib-knit wool-blend cuff sits close and helps cover the gap at the end of a jacket sleeve. This combination gives the Idun a more understated appearance than technical mountain gloves with extended cuffs and large adjustment straps.

Inside, the knitted wool-blend lining adds a warming layer next to the skin. Hestra specifies 80% wool and 20% polyamide for the wool blend used in the lining and cuff. The wool contributes warmth, while the blended construction keeps the knitted material practical for regular use. There is no need to add an extra liner automatically: the glove already has its own lining, and another layer would reduce the space available inside its narrower shape.

A snap-button cuff closure provides a simple fastening at the wrist. Open it before putting the glove on, settle each finger fully into place and then close it comfortably. Try the glove with the sleeves you normally wear, especially if your coat has a close-fitting cuff. Check that you can bend your fingers and close your hand without the leather or lining pulling tightly across the knuckles.

The Idun has no waterproof membrane. It is better suited to ordinary cold-weather wear than prolonged rain or wet snow. Hestra gives this model a warmth rating of 3/8, which places it toward lighter everyday insulation within the brand's own range. That is a comparison between Hestra products, rather than a fixed temperature guarantee. For extended exposure to severe cold, consider a more insulated glove.

For care and drying, follow the sewn-in label and use products appropriate for deerskin. Let damp gloves dry naturally, away from radiators and direct heat.
