Behind The Pines T-shirts
We started making our own T-shirts for a pretty simple reason: we wear T-shirts all the time and we knew exactly what we wanted from one.
Good cotton. Enough weight that it actually feels like a proper piece of clothing. A collar that holds its shape. A fit that is relaxed without becoming huge. And graphics that we still want to wear after the season they were released in.
That became the starting point for the Behind The Pines tees.
They sit alongside the rest of our Behind The Pines collection and, like most things we make ourselves, they are designed around what we actually wear.
We like a heavier T-shirt
There is a place for lightweight tees, especially when it gets properly hot.
But for everyday use we keep coming back to heavier cotton.
It hangs differently, keeps its shape better and feels substantial enough to wear by itself rather than only as something underneath another layer.
That is why heavyweight T-shirts have become such an important part of our own collection.
Not stiff. Not unnecessarily thick. Just enough material that the shirt feels good when you put it on and still looks good after it has been worn a lot.
The fit matters more than the print
Graphics are the fun part.
Fit is what determines whether you actually keep wearing the shirt.
We generally like our tees a little more relaxed, with enough room through the body and shoulders without turning them into oversized blanks.
The idea is that you can wear one with shorts in summer, under an overshirt when it cools down or underneath a jacket for most of the year.
Nothing particularly complicated.
It should just sit right.
Organic cotton
A lot of our own T-shirts use organic cotton.
We choose it because it works well for the kind of tee we want to make: comfortable against the skin, durable enough for regular use and capable of developing that softer, more worn-in feeling that good cotton gets over time.
We would rather make a shirt that gets better through wear than something that looks perfect for three washes and then starts losing its shape.

Graphics from Behind The Pines
Some Behind The Pines tees are simple logo pieces. Others carry graphics connected to the shop, the outdoors, snowboarding, surfing, travel or whatever has been going on around us when we make them.
We do not really work around a traditional fashion-season calendar.
An idea might come from a trip, somebody in the crew, an old photograph, something we found in the archive or simply something we would like to see on a shirt.
That makes the collection a little less predictable, which is how we prefer it.
Made to be worn, not collected
We like clothing that gets used.
A Behind The Pines T-shirt should be something you throw into a bag for a trip, wear three times in a week, wash, and put straight back into rotation.
A little fading does not bother us. Neither does cotton becoming softer with time.
Those are usually signs that somebody is actually wearing it.
Treat it properly and it should stay with you for a long time: wash at a lower temperature, do not cook it in the dryer and do not overthink it.
From the shop, not a separate universe
Behind The Pines started as a store, and the own collection grew out of that.
We spend our days around products from brands we respect. That means we see a lot of fabrics, fits, construction and things that work — and plenty that don't.
Our own pieces are our chance to take some of those lessons and make something that feels like us.
Sometimes that turns into technical merino or snowboard gear.
Sometimes it is just a really good T-shirt.
Both belong in the same collection.
Behind The Pines T-Shirts
Behind The Pines T-shirts are made for the way we wear them ourselves: often, without being too careful about it.
Heavy cotton, comfortable fits, simple logo pieces and graphics that come out of the world around the shop.
