Fully taped seams close the needle holes that would otherwise interrupt the waterproof barrier. A PFC-free DWR finish helps water bead on the outer surface, so the shell does not immediately feel saturated when snow turns damp.

These trousers are fully lined but unpadded. The lining adds comfort against your layers, while warmth remains something you control with what you wear underneath. Start with a moisture-managing base layer and add insulation when the forecast and your own cold tolerance call for it. That approach also makes the pants useful later in the season, when an insulated trouser can feel excessive.
