A fast powder-focused freeride board developed with Masanori Takeuchi, combining 3D shaping with full-length control.

The Family Tree Smooth Operator Camber Water 2027 Snowboard is a powder / freeride board shaped for riders who want a clear, deliberate feel rather than a vague one-board-does-everything compromise. Its Directional Camber profile and directional shape and flex; 10mm taper; 3d shaping set the direction: the board is designed to create predictable edge pressure, useful energy through the turn and a stance that matches the terrain it is intended to ride.

The profile is the first part to understand. Directional Camber describes how the base sits relative to the snow and where pressure builds when the board is weighted. Camber creates tension between the contact points, supporting edge hold and rebound when the rider loads the board with good timing. A directional version shifts that behaviour toward forward riding, while flatter sections in a profile generally make the board easier to plane and less demanding in soft snow.

The shape is just as important: Directional shape and flex; 10mm taper; 3D shaping. A directional outline places more emphasis on the nose and forward travel, which supports confident turn entry and a calmer feel when speed or snow depth increases. Taper and surface area toward the nose help the front of the board rise in soft snow, reducing the amount of rear-leg pressure needed to stay afloat.

The construction combines FSC™ Certified Dragonfly™ 600G Core with Multizone™ EGD™, 45° Carbon Highlights, Sintered WFO base, The Channel®, Balanced Freeride Geometry and Infinite Ride™. Each element has a specific role. The core establishes the basic flex and weight, the glass and carbon package tunes torsional response and energy, and the base choice influences glide and maintenance. The Channel allows fine stance adjustment, while details such as Pro-Tip and Infinite Ride are intended to keep swing weight and long-term flex behaviour consistent where they are specified.

This is a board for riders who value an active relationship with the edge. It rewards centred pressure, gradual input and a stance matched to the terrain. It can be ridden casually, but its design makes most sense when the rider uses the profile through the entire turn rather than simply pivoting the board. On firm snow, build the edge angle progressively; in softer conditions, let the shape and nose do the work before adding excessive rear-foot pressure.

Size selection should be based on body weight, boot size, ability and intended terrain, not height alone. Shorter options usually feel quicker from edge to edge and easier in tight terrain. Longer options add effective edge, stability and surface area. Wide sizes are intended for larger boot footprints and help reduce unwanted toe or heel drag, but unnecessary width can make edge changes slower. The available sizes here are 156, 160.

For the first setup, start near the reference stance and make small changes. Centre both boots across the waist, check binding angles and confirm that the stance allows the knees to track naturally. Setback can increase directional support and float, while a centred position feels more neutral. Wax the base for local snow temperature and keep the edges smooth; even a premium construction will feel dull if the base is dry or the edges are neglected.

Exact size specifications

Size Rider weight (kg) Waist (mm) Running length (mm) Sidecut radius (m) Stance width (mm) Nose (mm) Tail (mm) Effective edge (mm) Setback (mm)
156 68–91 251 1105 8.8 540 290.6 280.6 1175 -12.5
160 82–118+ 257 1135 9.1 540 297.5 287.5 1205 -12.5

Use the table to compare waist width, effective edge, sidecut and stance data between lengths. Those measurements are especially useful when deciding between two sizes or checking boot clearance. If you sit between options, prioritise stability and float with the longer size, or quicker handling with the shorter one.
