Vans Old Skool Waterproof Insulated Dress Blue

The Vans Old Skool Waterproof Insulated Dress Blue keeps the familiar low-top shape and Sidestripe, but adds weather protection for everyday winter use. It suits wet journeys across town, cold pavements and days when an ordinary canvas sneaker leaves you wanting more protection. The suede, textile and synthetic upper retains the recognisable Old Skool outline while giving this MTE version a more substantial cold-weather construction.

The waterproof system is HydroGuard 360°. Its purpose is to keep external moisture out of the protected area of the shoe, so it is useful around rain and slush. Remember that a low collar still has an opening: water that comes over the top can enter, regardless of the waterproof construction below. Think of these as weatherized everyday shoes rather than deep-snow boots or footwear for standing in water.

100 g PrimaLoft insulation adds warmth around the foot. The amount describes the insulation package, not a guaranteed temperature range. Warmth also depends on your socks, movement and the conditions. Wear the socks you intend to use when checking the fit, and leave enough space to move the toes. A thick sock that makes the shoe tight can be less comfortable than a moderate sock with useful room around the foot.

An UltraCush footbed provides cushioning underfoot, while the All-Trac rubber outsole is designed for traction across different surfaces. That combination makes sense for mixed everyday ground, where a walk can alternate between paving, park paths and wet surfaces. Grip remains dependent on the surface and how you move; take particular care on smooth ice. The padded collar adds comfort around the opening without turning the low-top into a high-support walking boot.

The lace-up closure lets you adjust pressure over the instep. Ease the laces before putting the shoes on, seat the heel and then tighten progressively so the front is secure without feeling compressed. Pull tabs at the tongue and heel help with entry. Try a few steps and check for excessive heel movement before deciding on a size. The familiar low-top silhouette is easy to wear with daily clothing, so you can keep the look of a sneaker when the weather turns colder.
