Osprey Escapist 25L Black

The Escapist 25 S/M is a bike-specific backpack for longer rides, commuting with more equipment and compact bikepacking trips. This S/M version carries 23 litres, despite the product’s family name, and keeps the load close to the body when the riding position becomes lower and more dynamic. It is best suited to riders who need organised storage and dependable stability rather than the minimal feel of a small hydration pack.

The AirScape backpanel uses mesh-covered ridged foam for ventilation while retaining a close fit. Its split upper section supports a natural riding posture, and the dropped lumbar places weight around the sit bones instead of letting the pack sway high on the back. A BioStretch harness and padded, mesh-lined hipbelt with zipped pockets help stabilise heavier loads and keep small essentials within reach.

Organisation is one of the main strengths. The front-panel compartment includes tool pouches, while side-access stash pockets, internal sections and a large front stretch pocket separate repair gear, food and layers. A LidLock helmet attachment, blinky-light point, webbing keepers and glove-friendly buckles are practical details rather than decoration. The included extra-high-visibility raincover provides additional weather protection when conditions deteriorate.

The main fabric is bluesign-approved recycled 210D nylon; the lining is recycled 200D polyester and the base uses recycled 500D high-tenacity nylon. All three use a DWR treatment made without PFAS. The pack is a certified bluesign product, reflecting controlled environmental and social criteria in its production. Treat the raincover as the primary defence in sustained rain and pack electronics separately for extra security.

Use the compression and adjustment points to keep dense items close to your spine. At 27 × 29 × 50 cm and approximately 1.154 kg, the S/M is substantial enough for longer days without becoming an expedition pack. Loading advice: distribute weight evenly and avoid sharp items pressing directly against the fabric. Keep frequently used gear near the easiest opening, and do a short test ride before a long route. Correct adjustment reduces movement, noise and unnecessary abrasion while making the storage system easier to use throughout the day.
